About Ode to Joy Cakes
My Story
Hi, I'm Joy of Ode to Joy Cakes (in case you haven't figured that out already). I kind of got into baking out of necessity. I have 4 young children and buying any kind of good quality cake X 4 would be a small fortune. So I ventured out of my comfort zone and started to bake.
At first I'd just buy the boxed cake mix and then hone my skill at cake decorating.
Then I decided I wanted the cakes to taste better than they looked (back then, it wasn't too difficult to do. My cake decorating skills were mediocre at best).
I started to dabble with different recipes and use my extended family as taste testers. I'd use our family get togethers as an excuse to bake where my cakes would always be our pot luck contributions :)
I could always count on my family for honest feedback.
It all started with this cake:
My signature carrot cake with cream cheese frosting and pecans (without if you’ve got a nut allergy). Either way a 9” round cake of goodness.
I think we were just having a “from the scratch” get together with my sister's family. Not sure who added the “the” in “from the scratch”, but it’s there nonetheless. It’s something our families try to do from time to time. Everyone makes something from scratch. We hang out in the kitchen and eat and drink all day.
I decided to make a carrot cake. The carrot cake.
I remember it tasted so good. Like heaven. All you could think of after that first bite was to have another one.
After using fresh ingredients, there was no turning back. I committed to only using the best ingredients for my cakes. The flavours got better and so did the decorating.
I figured if this realiziation made such an impact on me, imagine the impact it would have on others?
It's with this in mind that Ode to Joy Cakes creations are made "from the scratch" wherever possible.
